Students use Microsoft Word to create a Heart Collage. Students choose 10 things they enjoy and copy and paste an picture of the item from online or use clip art. Only 1 picture may be used from a specific category. For example, if basketball is something one enjoys, one can only have 1 picture related to basketball. If playing the guitar is something one enjoys, one can only have 1 picture that involves the guitar.
Once the picture is on the page...

- Click on the picture and go to the FORMAT TAB and choose the DOWN ARROW UNDER CROP.
- Select CROP TO SHAPE and choose HEART (found in the Basic Shapes group).
- Click on the picture and go to the FORMAT TAB and choose PICTURE BORDER and choose a WEIGHT OF 3.
- The picture borders may be any noticeable color besides white or a very light, hard to notice color.
- Go to the PAGE LAYOUT TAB and select a shade of RED for the PAGE COLOR.

- Select the "create" option on Tagxedo. Choose a shape that makes sense for the words you will copy and paste from your MLK Word List. Suggestions include: Heart, Peace Sign, Etc.

- Students are placed into specific new seats for opening activity involving seating and basketball hoop.
- Students go to govote.at and respond to the question: How did the warm-up activity with new seats and basketball make you feel?
- Have students view a video on MLK Jr. and list at least 10 key words in Microsoft Word that they heard through the video. Key words are important to the video and hold more significant meaning. Save the Word document onto your flash drive as Last Name First Name MLK Word List.
- Explain what a word cloud is.
- Graphical representation of word frequency.
- You are in control of the design. Choose colors. Choose layout. Choose font style. - Use http://www.abcya.com/word_clouds.htm to generate a word cloud.

- Students will create an MLA citation for Oregon, using www.50states.com as a resource.

- Check "yes" for showing the URL in the citation.
- Scroll to the bottom of the 50 States web site and locate the publisher and the copyright year to plug into the Easy Bib citation generator.
- After the MLA citation is checked for Oregon, students continue to work on their State PowerPoint Project.
